Jennifer Chandler began competing at the age of 8 and eventually won more than 100 first-place diving medals. She won her first national championship at the age of 14. At 16, she won the three-meter spring-board gold medal at the Pan American Games in 1975 and at 17 followed that up with an Olympic Gold medal at Montreal in 1976. Once an Olympian, always an Olympian, she was actively involved in Birmingham's role in the 1996 Atlanta Games. Early on she was named marketing director for the Birmingham Soccer Organizing Committee.
